"CAN JESUS REALLY SAVE US?"

(...Continued from previous page)

Can Jesus Really Save Us? Well, Let us examine the testimony of another man who also was transformed by the power of the Lord Jesus Christ. In Acts 9:1-31 Saul of Tarsus, a religious persecutor of Christians is confronted by the Risen Lord Jesus as he travels to Damascus to bind and bring Christians back to Jerusalem. The Lord in His glory appears to him in v.3 and Saul falls down in His presence as Jesus speaks: "Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou Me? And he said "Who art Thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest, it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks." Saul, in his ignorance was persecuting the people of the Lord whom he sought to serve, and upon realizing this surprising truth he "Trembling and astonished said, Lord what wilt Thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do." Saul then became a chosen vessel unto the Lord Jesus Christ, preaching unto the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel the very truth that he once repelled and persecuted!

His service to God is unparalleled in the history of the Church, his God inspired writings in the New Testament are the very central doctrines of salvation and church order making up the heart of New Testament teachings. His life of suffering and service from that day on the road to Damascus is one of the most heralded and historically accurate of any man who walked the face of the earth except for the Lord Jesus Christ!

One more example from the book of Acts. In chapter 16 Paul and Silas are beaten and thrown in jail in the city of Philippi for delivering a certain damsel from the power of another spirit. She had through this spirit "brought her masters much gain by soothsaying". Her masters took Paul and Silas to court and falsely accused them and beat them casting them into prison. But, "Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. And suddenly there was an earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed. And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled. But, Paul cried with a loud voice, saying Do thyself no harm: for we are all here. Then he (the keeper) called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas, And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. And they spake unto him the Word of the Lord , and to all that were in his house. And he (the keeper) took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes (wounds); and was baptized, he and all his, straightway." (v.26-33)

This man upon realizing that it was the God of Paul and Silas who caused these miraculous events to occur, the earthquake, opening the doors of the prison, loosing the bands of all prisoners, keeping all the prisoners in the prison, immediately requested from Paul how he too could be saved! Paul's simple, but direct response was: "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved" Simply putting your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, just as the countless men and women throughout the ages have done, is the way to be saved! Faith in the facts revealed in the Bible concerning Jesus, His suffering and death on the Cross to pay the penalty for my sin, your sin, and the sin of the whole world; believing that God in His approval of Jesus' sinless sacrifice raised Jesus from the dead for our justification, believing that Jesus ascended to heaven and is now seated at the right hand of God the Father, faith in Jesus, that is what saves us, and yes, Jesus truly can save us from our sin, and give us eternal life in heaven with Him!
